What is Botox®?
Botox® is a muscle relaxing agent derived from Botulinum that reduces wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily relaxing the muscle. The most common area of treatment is frown lines of the forehead. It may also be used to treat excessive underarm sweating.
What conditions can be treated using Botox and fillers?
Botox can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the face, especially the brow area and the "crows feet" around the eyes. Cosmetic fillers, such as Evolence can be used to smooth deeper wrinkles such as the nasal labia fold or to enhance the lips.
How do the treatments work?
With Botox, the injections work by relaxing the facial muscles that contract and cause these lines. With fillers, the injections are used to restore the fullness of the face by filling in the deeper lines to produce a smoother surface of the skin.
What areas can be treated?
Fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, crows feet around the eyes, and deep laugh lines or the labial nasal fold around the mouth can be all be successfully treated with Botox and fillers.
How long do the treatments last?
Generally you can see results for up to four months for Botox and up to six months for fillers.
What can I expect during a treatment?
Botox and filler products are injected into the skin in tiny amounts using a very small needle.
How soon can I see results?
Results can be seen in as little as two days.
Who are the best candidates for treatments?
Anyone in good health that wishes to minimize fine lines and wrinkles are candidates for these treatments.

What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a treatment in which the stratum corneum or dead surface skin is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. There are different methods including crystal based and non-crystal based where the particles are removed through the suction of a handpiece, as well as the newer paddle abrasion technology that eliminates the use of suction.
How do the treatments work?
Microdermabrasion treatments exfoliate the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stimulate new collagen, reduce pore size, and rejuvenate skin to provide a more even skin tone.
What are the treatments like?
Depending on the technology, the skin is scrubbed gently to loosen the outer layer of dead skin to reveal the newer, more supple skin below.
How soon can I see results from treatment?
Results can be seen immediately and for continued results, a regular routine of microdermabrasion treatments are recommended.
How many treatments are needed?
Generally, a series of treatments are prescribed depending on the patient's specific needs to achieve results. Regular treatments are advised to maintain long-lasting results.
Who is the best candidate for treatments?
Anyone who wants to improve the tone and texture of their skin, especially those interested in less aggressive treatments with no downtime. Many physicians incorporate microdermabrasion as a post laser or light based procedure while younger patients with great skin use microdermabrasion to maintain the good appearance of the skin longer.

What is photrejuvenation?
Photorejuvenation is series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments that improve the appearance of rosacea and other vascular conditions, sun damaged skin, age spots, and other skin discoloration. It can also improve mild acne scars, reduces large pores, and reduce fine lines.
How do the treatments work?
An intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the vessel or lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or the body absorbs it. Treatment can be given as frequently as every three weeks.
What is the treatment like?
Treatment may vary from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. First, the treated area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation is similar to a snap of a rubber band. After treatment, the gel is removed, the skin cleansed, and a sunscreen is applied. Pain is minimal; however, topical anesthesia can be used for maximum comfort. For sensitive skin, a cool compress is applied following treatment.
How soon can I see results from treatment?
Results appear gradually as the pigment fades and sloughs off.
How many treatments are needed?
For optimal results, a series of 3 to 5 treatments are recommended. Follow-up treatments may be desired once a year to maintain results.
Who is the best candidate for treatments?
Anyone interested in smoother more youthful skin with minimal downtime.

What is a PCA Peel?
PCA professional peels help reduce the depth of surface lines, smooth rough skin texture, treat skin discoloration and redness, and assist in clearing acne/blemished skin. The naturally occuring alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), retiol and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) found in PCA Professional peels loosen dead cells from the skin's surface, revealing new, healthy cells. The result is smooth, radiant, glowing skin.
Who should consider a PCA Peel?
Anyone who wants their skin to look better and help fight acne vulgaris, enlarged pores, rough and oily skin, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and photoaging or general poor skin quality will benefit most.
How long will the treatment take?
From start to finish the procedure should take approximately 20 minutes. There is little or no downtime.
When Can I schedule my next peel?
PCA Peels are gentle enough to use every two weeks for maximum benefits. Ask your skin care professional when to schedule your next peel.
What should I do after my peel?
You may be more sensitive to the sun, so limit sun exposure during treatment and for at least one week afterwards. Use sun protection for the face of at least SPF 20 or higher.
Avoid strenuous exercise for at least one day, as the perspiration may irritate the skin.
When washing your face, do not scrub. Use a gentle cleanser.
Do not have any other facial treatments for at least one week after your peel. You may resume regular use of Retin-A, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) products, or bleaching creams only after the peeling process is complete.
Who cannot have a PCA Peel?
Those with a history of an allergy to aspirin, and those who are pregnant and lactating are contraindications.
How long will the treatment take?
From start to finish the procedure should take approximately 20 minutes. There is little or no downtime.

What are spider veins?
Spider veins, also called telangiectasias, are tiny visible vessels just underneath the skin. They develop most commonly on the face and legs. For our purposes, when we talk about spider veins we are talking about the small veins on the face.
How does laser treatment work for spider veins?
The light energy from the laser (or Intense Pulsed Light device, or IPL) is delivered to the vein in a series of brief pulses. The energy is absorbed by the blood vessels and causes them to coagulate. The body then absorbs the coagulated vein which causes it to disappear from the surface. Coagulating these small vessels does not compromise circulation.
How soon can I see results?
Because laser vein treatment works by causing the unwanted vein to break up and dissolve, resolution of the unwanted vein will take place over the course of several weeks to months, depending on your situation.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effect is bruising around the treated area. This will resolve within days of the treatment, and occurs only with some lasers used.
Is there much downtime associated with the treatment?
There is no down time with vascular treatments. Normal activities can resume immediately after treatment. However, if bruising occurs, it usually dissipates within a week. Rigorous activity should be avoided for 24 hours.
Who is the best candidate for treatments?
Prior to treatment, your candidacy will be assessed by your physician. Laser vein treatments work best on those who suffer from small surface blue, red, and purple broken capillaries and spider veins. Vascular treatments are safe for all skin types. This procedure is not, however, performed on varicose or raised veins.

What is Laser Hair Removal?
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) is FDA approved to permanently reduce hair. Patients experience comparable results to Laser Hair Removal. The light waves penetrate the hair follicle, putting an end to hair growth. Because the light is absorbed by melanin, the hair is damaged while the skin is not.
Is there any downtime?
No downtime is involved; patients can return to normal activities immediately.
Are there any side effects?
Possible side effects include reddening of the skin and goosebump like swelling around the hair follicles may occur.
How long do the results last?
In certain cases 80% of a permanent reduction can last. We suggest doing maintenance treatments every 6 months to keep up with any regrowth.
How many treatments are needed?
Because hair can only be affected during certain growth cycles, several treatments are necessary. Usually six to eight sessions are required to achieve the desired effect.
How long does the treatment last?
The duration varies depending on your individual needs and the size of the area to be treated. Appointments usually range from a half hour to an hour.
How does the treatment feel?
Most patients experience a little discomfort. Some patients may feel heat or a slight stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness and swelling on the face. Rosacea may begin as a tendency to flush or blush easily, and then progress to persistent redness in the center of the face that may gradually involve the cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose. It also may involve the ears, chest and back.
What treatment is available?
Laser or intense pulsed light devices are used to treat rosacea safely, quickly, and with no down time. Patients can generally resume regular activities immediately.
How does the treatment work?
The lasers or intense pulsed light device delivers a measured dosage of light energy to each area of the skin in a series of brief pulses. The treatment is well tolerated by most patients.
How many treatments are required?
Rosacea may clear after only one treatment, however most patients require a series of treatments for best results.
Who is the best candidate for treatments?
Anyone suffering from rosacea is a candidate for treatment.

How does VelaShape™ work?
VelaShape™ uses combined energies known as elōs™ to precisely target and heat fatty tissues within the treatment area. In addition, the vacuum and tissue manipulation evens out the skin to reveal a smoother, tighter figure.
On what body areas can I be treated for Circumference Reduction?
With VelaShape™, you can be treated on body areas such as the thighs and buttocks. The two applicators (VSmooth & VContour) on the VelaShape™ device are designed for large and small body areas; therefore, treatment is safe and effective.
How quickly will I notice a change?
Gradual improvement of the treated area can be seen following the first treatment - with the skin surface of the treated area feeling smoother, firmer and tighter. Results in Circumference and Cellulite Reduction will be most apparent 6-8 weeks following the final treatment session.
How many inches can I reduce from my circumference?
In clinical studies, patients report an average reduction of about 1 inch post treatment series. In clinical trials, the range of Circumferential Reduction was between 0.5-3 inches.
How do I improve and maintain the VelaShape™ results?
Following your complete treatment regimen, it is recommended to get maintenance treatments periodically. Like all non-surgical or surgical techniques, results will last longer if you follow a balanced diet and exercise regularly.
Is treatment safe?
FDA cleared the device as safe and effective for all skin types and colors. Short term effects can include mild bruising or redness.
Does this treatment suit me?
The majority of the population is suitable for receiving the VelaShape™ treatment. You should consult with your physician prior to receiving treatments. For treatment contra-indications, please refer to your local Syneron representative.
What is the feeling during treatment?
Most patients claim that the treatment is pleasant, followed by a deep heating sensation beneath their skin.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most patients find VelaShape™ treatments comfortable - like a warm deep tissue massage. The treatment is designed to accommodate your sensitivity and comfort level. It is normal to experience a warm sensation for a few hours post treatment. Your skin may also appear redder than usual for several hours.
How will I feel after treatment?
Post treatment skin on treated area could feel tighter. It is normal to have an inner heated sensation for up to a few hours post treatment. In some cases, mild redness can be observed.
What are the VelaShape™ advantages compared to other methods?
Our advantage is our technology. Today, there are no other methods available that include a combination of Bi-Polar RF, Infrared Light, Vacuum and Mechanical Massage like VelaShape™, and no other method can guarantee the clinically proven results, efficacy and safety in 4 treatments as the VelaShape™. VelaShape™ is the only non-surgical medical device cleared by the FDA for circumferential reduction.

What is the best way to maintain healthy skin?
A regimen that both supplements and supports the skin's structure and function - like physician-grade skin care products - will help achieve and maintain beautiful skin while also helping to aid in slowing the visible signs of aging.
Why are physician-grade skin care products essential to my daily regimen?
Physician-grade skincare products can provide clinically proven and often dramatic results. The reason for their efficacy is that they contain paramedical ingredients with potency and ingredient levels far superior to products found in drug or department stores. Although products sold in department and drug stores may contain similar ingredients, the percentage of these ingredients is miniscule in comparison. The Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act prohibits the manufacturer from using clinical strengths of medications in over-the-counter products. Therefore, in order to obtain clinical strength skin care products, you must purchase them from a physician who is licensed to dispense such medications.
How do I know what products are best for my skin?
A thorough consultation and analysis of you skin by a trained clinician or physician will enable them to evaluate your needs to provide the best combination of products to achieve your personal goals.
What conditions can be treated effectively with these products?
Products are available to achieve a variety of skin care goals, whether as a stand-alone treatment option, or in combination with minimally invasive treatments such as microdermabrasion or more invasive treatments like laser peels or even after plastic surgery.
How soon can I see results?
Visible results may vary depending on conditions, treatments and products used. Consult with your skin care provider on a case by case basis.
Who is the best candidate for these products?
Anyone, male or female, can benefit from the use of physician-grade skincare products.

Why would I use pHaze 1 Facial Wash or pHaze 1 Facial Wash for Oily/Problem Skin rather than soap to cleanse my skin?
Skin on the face is more delicate than skin on the body. While soap is suitable to cleanse skin on the body it is far too drying for sensitive facial skin. The over-drying effect of soap can result in premature wrinkling and an over production of oil. pHaze 1 Facial Wash & pHaze 1 Facial Wash for Oily/Problem Skin are pH balanced cleansers that will not only gently cleanse but also free skin from cell debris resulting in a more vibrant appearance.
My skin is very oily, do I need a moisturizer?
Yes. Everyone, no matter how oily their skin, needs a daytime (with SPF) and nighttime moisturizer. Healthy skin requires a delicate balance of both water and oil. Even if your skin produces excess oil you still need to replenish the water in the skin and keep it hydrated. A deficiency of water will typically lead to an overproduction of oil which would worsen your condition. Choose a daytime SPF product designed for oily skin, such as pHaze 7 Protecting Hydrator SPF 25, as well as a non-oily or oil free nighttime moisturizer, such as pHaze 18 Clearskin, for best results.
I have breakout prone skin that is also sensitive. How would I decide between using pHaze 33 Acne Cream and pHaze 35 Acne Gel?
pHaze 33 Acne Cream is an active benzoyl peroxide spot treatment product that is designed for more resilient acne prone skin. It is a very effective anti-acne agent, but may prove too stimulating for your sensitive skin. pHaze 35 Acne Gel is a combination of salicylic acid, azelaic acid and active botanicals to kill bacteria and reduce oil production to control acne breakouts. This formula would probably be a better choice, as it is very gentle and effective.
What makes pHaze 25 ExLinea™ Peptide Smoothing Serum different from other peptide products on the market?
There are many different peptides on the market that perform different functions in the skin. The peptide in ExLinea™, acetyl hexapeptide-3, is specifically targeted for relaxing facial tension that can cause facial wrinkling while reducing the depth of existing lines. ExLinea™ also incorporates hyaluronic acid to increase the skin’s moisture binding ability. Another PCA SKIN® product that contains peptides is the pHaze 12 eyeXcellence, formulated with three other peptides that are targeted for reducing under eye circles, puffiness and wrinkles. Using these two advanced formulations together leaves the skin plump, hydrated, smooth and firm. And for men, Total Strength Line & Pore Minimizer in the PCA® MEN line contains a peptide that builds collagen to strengthen skin and dramatically reduce wrinkles.
I used pHaze 13 Pigment Gel® Dyschromia Controller for two weeks or so... is it my imagination or did my spots get darker before they got lighter?
Yes, this is possible because the discoloration that is closer to the surface of your skin appears darker than the pigment that is in the lower layers of your skin. If discoloration gets darker first, it is rising to the surface to be exfoliated. At this point it is especially important to continue with your lightening regimen. If you are using the pHaze 13 Pigment Gel® with HQ, keep in mind that hydroquinone is a lightening ingredient that can oxidize and turn dark brown when exposed to air and light. This may discolor the skin’s surface (the very problem you are trying to correct). Therefore, it is imperative that you use the appropriate PCA SKIN® sunscreen moisturizer to create a barrier and protect the hydroquinone from air contact and sunlight.
How do I know which chemical peel treatment is right for me?
Your skin care professional will be trained on each of the PCA Professional™ Products. This training will allow them to not only choose a treatment designed for your skin type, but customize a treatment, addressing your personal skin care needs.
How much discomfort should be expected when having a peel?
The level of discomfort experienced depends on the treatment. Most PCA Professional™ chemical peels are gentle and create little or no burning or stinging sensation in the skin. Dramatic wrinkling, sun damage or acne scars may require a deeper peel, which may cause moderate stinging for a few minutes. More dramatic results can be expected from a deeper peel, however deep peels are not necessary for most skin types and conditions. PCA’s philosophy of taking a low-dose approach means our superficial chemical peels create minimal discomfort and produce beautiful and immediate results for most patients.
Should people who are frequently in the sun receive peels?
Yes, but only if they are compliant with using sunscreen protection every day. Sunbathing should be avoided directly following a treatment and while the skin is peeling. If you are getting peels to lighten the skin, it is imperative to use the appropriate pHaze 13 Pigment Gel® Dyschromia Controller (with HQ or HQ Free) followed by pHaze 6+ Hydrator Plus SPF 25 or pHaze 7 Protecting Hydrator SPF 25 and avoid unnecessary sun exposure to reduce any chance of further hyperpigmentation.
Which peels may be used on someone who exercises frequently?
Someone who is active may have any peel, but all peel patients must wait 48 hours after a treatment to exercise. If this is not an option, the Non-Burning Facial Peel or Intensive Vitamin C Treatment are alternate choices. These treatments use our Ultra Peel® II Exfoliating Treatment which is an acid-free retinol cream. Its delayed flaking action will not cause irritation or downtime, and leaves the skin glowing and hydrated.
Will a chemical peel make thin skin even thinner?
Dry skin is partially the result of dead cell buildup, which actually hinders natural exfoliation as well as the absorption and penetration of vitamins and nutrients. Having a PCA Professional™ chemical peel will remove surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a plumper, “thicker” appearance. The use of topical vitamin C and peptide products in a treatment, as well as in your daily care regimen will help build collagen in the skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.
